On Wednesday, June 15, Barbados will join with other countries around the world to host a number of activities to observe World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.

The activities, which are a collaborative effort of the National Assistance Board and the National Committee on Ageing, will begin with a church service on Sunday, June 12, at the Church of the Nazarene, Bank Hall, St. Michael, at 10:30 a.m.

The following Wednesday, June 15, a panel discussion will be held at the Queen’s Park Steel Shed, St. Michael, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The discussion will focus on different aspects of elder abuse, including its mental impact; the church and the community response; the police response; as well as the legal perspective.

Minister of Social Care, Constituency Empowerment and Community Development, Steve Blackett, will deliver brief remarks at both events. Members of the public are invited to attend.
