African Awareness activities will continue tomorrow, Thursday, February 23, with the Coleridge and Parry School in St. Peter hosting a lecture-discussion on the theme: Motherland Calling – Africa Calling.

The lecture will be delivered at 9:00 a.m. by Professor Frederick Ochieng’-Odhiambo of The University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus.

Students at the school will also be entertained by performances from stilt walker, Len Sehntwali, and drumming from Michael Slocombe, who will host a workshop for fifth formers. An African awareness quiz will also be a feature of the school’s activities.

On Friday, February 24, Government Hill Nursery School will celebrate African Awareness Month with a programme under the theme: Voyage to Africa.

The event, which gets under way at 9:00 a.m., will feature music, art and craft.  Dubbed “dress up” day, both tiny tots and their teachers are expected to display magnificent African garb.

That same day, at the Eden Lodge Nursery School, activities will be held under the theme:  I am A Proud Afro-Barbadian. The event begins with children parading their African outfits at 9:00 a.m.

Story-telling will be the highlight of the programme and children will hear African tales from Gregory and Len Sehntwali. The latter will discuss the origins of music through storytelling and undertake a demonstration of stilt-walking.

Dance Instructor from the National Cultural Foundation, Carolyn Brathwaite, will also perform for the children.
