The deadline for the 2011 Agrofest Poster and Essay Competitions for primary and secondary schools has been extended to next Monday, March 21.

The essay competition, open to all secondary school students, has as its theme Invest in a Healthy Lifestyle… Eat Wisely: The impact of diet on the development and/or control of Chronic Non-Communicable Diseases (CNCDs).

The essay should be between 500 and 700 words and offer recommendations on how dietary changes could decrease the prevalence of CNCDs and by extension, how this could positively impact on the finances of Barbadians.

The poster competition, open to primary school students between the ages of nine and eleven, has as its theme Be Smart, Eat Smart, and Spend Smart.

The poster should be a collage and depict how eating nutritiously could result in a successful and healthy future. It should illustrate wholesome food choices, the healthy preparation of food and correct portion sizesJudging will be in the areas of capturing the theme, presentation, use of materials and originality.
