Barbados’ National Anti-Drug Plan 2017 to 2021 will be the topic of discussion this Wednesday, January 18, during a consultation of national stakeholders at the Savannah Beach Hotel, from 9:15 a.m.
The plan, which is being coordinated by the National Council on Substance Abuse and the Ministry of Home Affairs, aims to outline the policies and programmes to be adopted and pursued by various agencies in their respective areas of drug control.
Over the next five years, the document, crafted in accordance with guidelines set out by the Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission, will be designed to meet the goals as documented in the Hemispheric Drug Strategy of the Organization of American States.
These goals are: institutional strengthening; drug demand reduction; supply reduction; control measures; international cooperation; and monitoring and evaluation.
During the meeting, stakeholders will discuss the perspectives, plans and recommendations which were articulated at the first national stakeholders’ meeting in 2013.
Minister of Home Affairs, Adriel Brathwaite, will deliver the feature address during the opening ceremony.
