Barbados will join the rest of the world in celebrating National Arbor Day on Sunday, September 22, under the theme: Trees: The Circle of Life.

However, the official opening ceremony to launch the week of activities and the Environmental/Arbor Expo will take place on Monday, September 23, at the National Conservation Commission (NCC), Codrington, St. Michael, beginning at 9:30 a.m.

During that ceremony, officials at the NCC will also launch the NCC???s North Wall Park, a project which boasts of a solar powered pond and waterfall, a composting area, apiary, medicinal plant garden and orchard. The park forms part of the NCC???s commitment to implementing projects and programmes that complement Government???s overall goal of becoming the most advanced green economy in the Caribbean and Latin America by 2015.

Celebrations will continue on Tuesday, September 24, with the unveiling of a green banner project at Hastings Rocks, Hastings, Christ Church, beginning at 10:30 a.m.

The week-long celebrations will climax on Saturday, September 28, with the annual Environmental/Arbor Expo at the NCC???s headquarters at Codrington, St. Michael, from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.

During the week, youth groups and organisations are also encouraged to plant trees to signify their importance.
