BAC???s Debate Competition Starts October 26

Ten schools will participate in the second National Secondary School Debate Competition of the Barbados Accreditation Council (BAC) next week.

They are The Alexandra School, Frederick Smith Secondary, Harrison College, The Lodge School, Combermere, Queen???s College, The St. Michael School, The Alleyne School, St. Winifred???s School and Deighton Griffith Secondary School.

The preliminary rounds of the competition will be held from Monday, October 26, to Thursday, October 29, in the auditorium of the Barbados Public Workers??? Cooperative Credit Union, Belmont Road, St. Michael.

On Monday, October 26, St Winifred???s School and The Alexandra School will face off from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.; while on Tuesday, October 27, The Lodge School and Frederick Smith Secondary School will compete from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. It will be the turn of The St. Michael School and Combermere School on Wednesday, October 28, also from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.

Thursday, October 29, will see Harrison College and Queen???s College competing from 10:00 a.m. until noon, while from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. on that same day, Deighton Griffith Secondary School will come up against The Alleyne School.??The finals are slated for Wednesday, November 25, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.

Students will debate the moot: Internet Use can Positively Enhance The Quality of Education during the preliminary rounds while the topic for debate during the finals will be Self-Financing of Education Increases Student Engagement.

The debate requires students to research issues; organise and analyse data; make references from the data; reason, recognise and critique different methods of reason; and comprehend decision-making processes. Members of the public are invited to attend the debates.
