Barbadians Flock To Job Fair

Hundreds of Barbadians flocked to the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre this morning with the hope of finding employment in Canada.

They were attending a job fair hosted by Canadian recruiting firm, Diamond Global, in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour, Social Security and Human Resource Development.

Interviews are being conducted for placement in various positions in the restaurant, hospitality and food service, retail, construction, manufacturing, and transportation sectors in Canada.

Successful applicants will be offered contracts for an initial period of two years with the possibility of having them renewed for an additional two years.

Labour officials were quite pleased with the turnout, and stated that there were larger numbers than initially anticipated.

The orientation session, led by Vice President of Diamond Global, Benjamin Guth and Director of Operations, Sean Stewart, was filled to capacity, with long lines of persons still waiting to enter the Centre.

During the presentation, participants were told of the requirements for working in Canada, what employers expected of their workers and about Canada???s work culture.

At the conclusion, there was a question and answer segment with the Diamond Global officials.

The job fair continues, tomorrow, Saturday, January 18, from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., with orientation sessions at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
