The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator Maxine McClean, has announced the appointment of Guy Hewitt and Alphea Wiggins, as Barbados??? new High Commissioner and Deputy High Commissioner to the United Kingdom.

Mr. Hewitt will replace Hugh Arthur as High Commissioner, while Ms. Wiggins will be replacing Donville Johnson, as Deputy High Commissioner.

As an ordained minister of religion, Mr. Hewitt has extensive executive management experience in the public and private sectors and is a specialist in change management and social development issues.

During his professional career, the envoy has worked at the Commonwealth Secretariat in London, the Caribbean Examinations Council, the City and Guilds Institute in London and has headed a development and management solutions company.

Ms. Wiggins, an accountant and management consultant has served as the Executive Manager of the Barbados Association of Retired Persons as well as the General Manager of ALMAR Business Centre Inc.??She has also worked in an accounting capacity at the former Barbados Telephone Company Limited [now LIME], the former Barbados National Bank [now Republic Bank], the Barbados National Trust and Carlisle Laboratories Limited.

???The Government attaches great importance to the appointment of Mr. Hewitt and Ms. Wiggins to the High Commissioner in London. Barbados has enjoyed a long-standing and warm relationship with the United Kingdom.

In addition, Great Britain is home to a sizeable Barbadian community and the UK has been a significant source of visitor arrivals to Barbados,??? Senator McClean stated.??Meanwhile, the Ministry has announced that Barbados??? Ambassador to CARICOM, Robert Morris, will be presenting credentials today accrediting him as Barbados??? High Commissioner to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.

The Ambassador, who will be stationed in Barbados on a non-resident basis, has also been accredited as Barbados??? non-resident High Commissioner to the Bahamas in 2012, Guyana and Jamaica in April and July, 2014.??Additionally, Dr. Donna Hunte-Cox, assumed duties as Consul-General at the Consulate-General of Barbados in New York in July 2014.
