Barbados and Guyana are keen to build on their already strong existing relationship.

This view was expressed recently when this country???s Industry Minister, Donville Inniss, and the Vice President and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Guyana, Carl Greenidge, met at the Hilton Barbados Resort during a break of the Eighth Plenary Meeting of the Global Forum.

The Vice President, who was on an official visit to Barbados to sign the Third Barbados Guyana Joint Commission, noted that it would benefit both countries to look at potential projects for further collaboration, as they already had a close working relationship.

Congratulating the Vice President on his recent appointment, Mr. Inniss stated that in the New Year he would be heading a three-nation CARICOM visit, and Georgetown would be one of the stops. He further pointed out that manufacturing was not the only area of collaboration for the two countries, as they could also consider trading and services.

The Minister explained that Guyana had the potential to be a significant exporter of goods in the region and this included agricultural products, while Barbados??? strength laid in services.

Mr. Inniss said that the time had come to initiate serious dialogue about services in Guyana, as more Barbadians needed to be encouraged to start seeing Guyana as a place for investment. He pointed to Barbadian businessman Sir Kyffin Simpson as someone who has recognised the benefits of investing in that country.

Other areas discussed were the tourism sector and specifically, ecotourism, as well as potential agricultural projects.
