Prime Minister Freundel Stuart’s declaration that he is proud to be Prime Minister of Barbados during these tough economic times was greeted with thunderous applause and shouts of adoration from scores of equally proud Barbadians and well-wishers living abroad.

Speaking during the annual Crop Over Reception at Ilaro Court last Thursday night, he said the island was the best in the world and he urged the large gathering to count their blessings.

"We have the best country in the world…We do not rejoice at the misfortune anywhere else in the world but we could have easily been living in Syria tonight or in Libya, Greece or in some other country where we could not meet, congregate and enjoy ourselves in a civilised and decent way as we are here tonight [Thursday night].

"If there is one lesson that this teaches all of us is that … not to count our curses but to count your blessings and it will surprise you what the Lord has done.?? That is why I am proud to be a Barbadian and I am prouder still to be Prime Minister of Barbados at this time," Mr. Stuart observed

During the event, there were performances from the victorious monarchs of the just concluded Crop Over Festival including the Calypso Monarch, Popsicle; Sweet Soca Monarch, Red Plastic Bag; Part Monarch, Mikey; Road March King, Edwin and runner up in the Sweet Soca Monarch competition, Biggie Irie.??

There were also presentations from the Junior Monarchs in the 8-12 and 13-18 age categories Carrie G and Sammy G.
