The role of statistics in shaping the development of the Caribbean will come into sharp focus next week, when the Barbados Statistical Service (BSS), hosts its week of activities.

Under the theme Recognising the Essential Role of Statistics in the Development of the Caribbean Community, the week gets under way on Sunday, October 9, with a church service at the Church of the Resurrection, Green Hill, St. Michael, starting at 9:00 a.m.

The following day, Monday, October 10, there will be a health expo on the 3rd floor, National Insurance Building, Fairchild Street, the City, commencing at 10:00 a.m.?? During the event, members of the public can benefit from a range of health tests including blood pressure and cholesterol checks.

??On Tuesday, October 11, Census Co-ordinator, Trevor Davis, will examine the 2010 Population and Housing Census: Issues, Challenges and Some Results, during their Technical Seminar.?? It will be held in the Lecture Room, Warrens Office Complex, St. Michael, starting at 10:00 a.m.

Dietary Habits and Stress Management will be the theme of a lecture for BSS staffers on Wednesday, October 12, commencing at 10:00 a.m.?? It will be delivered by Nutrition Officer, Beverly Stanford and Psychologist, Dr. Peter Lorde.?? Later that day, there will be a Dutch auction at 3:00 p.m.

On Thursday, September 13, at 9:30 a.m., there will be a presentation on the work done by the BSS.

Department staff will be formally recognised on Friday, October 14, during a luncheon and awards ceremony slated for Bagatelle Great House, St. Thomas, beginning at 12:30 p.m.??

The week of activities will climax on Saturday, October 15, with a nature walk starting from Cove Bay, St. Lucy, at 6:00 a.m.?? This will be followed by a picnic at Good Shepherd Beach, Fitts Village, St. James at 1:30 p.m.
