School leavers who may be unsure of what career path or training options are available to them, will receive some much-needed guidance at month end.

That is because the Barbados Vocational Training Board (BVTB), as part of celebrations for its 30th anniversary, will host a career showcase on Friday, April 30, in Queens Park from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The showcase will also be an opportunity for unemployed Barbadians who may wish to learn new skills to gather information on the courses offered by the department.

Patrons will be able to view several exciting exhibits by students of the BVTB including bar and restaurant services, garment making, and cosmetology. Other career programmes which will be on show include Autotronics, Housekeeping and Care of the Elderly.

The carpentry and masonry students will build structures on site as part of a demonstration of the two trades, while sumptuous dishes will be prepared and served by students of the cooking programme.

Representatives of the Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic and the National Employment Bureau of the Ministry of Labour will be on hand to promote their programmes and services.

Hundreds of students from across the island are expected to visit the showcase which is the culmination of a month of activities put on by the department.

Further information on the event may be obtained by contacting the Barbados Vocational Training Board, Lawrence Green House, Culloden Road, St. Michael at 436-7970.
