The Caribbean Agricultural Research and Development Institute’s (CARDI) Country Office in Barbados will be celebrating CARDI Day under the theme Celebrating the potential of the region’s coconut industry.

On Wednesday, December 5, there will be an opening ceremony followed by a field tour at 9:30 a.m. at CARDI’s Demonstration and Training Centre, located at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security grounds, Graeme Hall, Christ Church.

This year’s focus will be on highlighting the Institute’s work under the EU/ACP-funded Regional Coconut Industry Development Project. The field tour will include a demonstration of a shredder machine to process coconut husks and a visit to the coconut plant nursery.

Also, during the day, coconut based products will be on display and information booklets on how to produce selected agricultural commodities will be available for attendees.

CARDI’s Barbados representative, Ansari Hosein stated that “December fifth is symbolic, as it is on this day in 1974 that Government representatives across the region signed the Agreement establishing CARDI in Georgetown, Guyana”.

He went on to highlight that the day’s celebrations give the institute the opportunity to reach out to the public, stakeholders, partners, collaborators and the private sector across the region in an effort to allow persons to learn more about CARDI and the work it is doing.
