Primary school students will find out exactly how they can Protect Earth, Restore Land, Engage People, when they go on tour of the Turner???s Hall Woods this week.

That is the slogan being used to mark the International Day for Combating Degradation and Drought, to be celebrated on Friday, June 17, under the theme: Inclusive Cooperation for Achieving Land Degradation Neutrality.

Students of the Wesley Hall Infants School will tour the Woods tomorrow, Wednesday, June 15; Ellerton Primary School on Thursday, June 16, and St. Christopher???s Primary on Friday, June 17. All tours begin at 10:30 a.m., and will be conducted by Dendrologist, Nigel Jones, of the National Botanical Gardens.

The International Day for Combating Degradation and Drought was established to increase understanding and awareness of land degradation and drought issues and the importance of conserving scarce land resources.

Officials at the Ministry of the Environment and Drainage indicated that the theme focuses on inclusive cooperation among all stakeholders, ministries, agencies and sectors, to restore and rehabilitate degraded land and contribute towards achieving the overall Sustainable Development Goals.
