Come next Monday, September 25, Senior Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Dame Billie Miller, will deliver her annual statement at the United Nations (UN), General Assembly 61st Session which is underway at the UN Headquarters in New York.

Minister Miller will be the sixth speaker and Barbadians can tune into her address by logging on to the UN webcast site http://www.un.org/webcast/index.asp between 11:30 a.m. and 12 noon.

The General Assembly, set up in 1945 under the Charter of the United Nations, occupies a central position as the chief deliberative, policy-making and representative organ of the United Nations. Comprising 192 members, it provides a forum for multilateral discussion on the full spectrum of international issues covered by the Charter.  Decisions on important questions, such as those on peace and security, admission of new members and budgetary matters, require a two-thirds majority.

Decisions on other questions are by simple majority.
