Saturday, October 13 has been designated as the United Nation’s (UN) International Day for Disaster Reduction (IDDR).

And, to mark the occasion, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in partnership with the Department of Emergency Management (DEM), and the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR) Regional Office of the Americas, will celebrate International Day for Disaster Reduction, tomorrow, Friday, October 12.

Under the theme: Women and Girls – the inVisible Force of Resilience, this year the IDDR will acknowledge and appreciate the millions of women and girls who made their communities more resilient to disasters and climate risks.

The day will seek to highlight the contribution that women and girls have made before, during and after disasters as well as the obstacles faced by their exclusion from participation and decision-making in disaster risk reduction and management processes.
