“Community Care – A Pathway to Better Mental Health” will be the topic of discussion when the Barbados Mental Health and Support Association hosts an educational outreach programme in  St. Peter at The Family Church, Little Battaley, on Saturday, November 22.

A collaborative effort between the Association and the Psychiatric Hospital at Black Rock, the session will address issues of care for the mentally ill patient. These will be examined by a cadre of persons involved in the discipline.

The topics include Mental Health Reform – A Community Perspective by Dr. Ermine Belle; Mental Health and Mental Illness by Dr. Gajapathay Asokan; The Role of the Community Mental Health Nurse by Mr. Mitchinson Small; The Community and Half-way Housing by Mrs. Lucy Blackett; The Role of the Social Worker by Ms. Deneise Agard and Your Mental Health and Support Association by Geoffrey Small.

Director of the Psychiatric Hospital, Tennyson Springer will give remarks at the start of the session.

Individuals with a special interest in mental health, as well as those suffering from depression and their care-givers are especially invited to attend this discussion.
