Discussions Soon On Human And Social Development Issues

Minister of Family, Culture, Sports and Youth, Stephen Lashley

Culture, sports and youth issues will take centre stage over the next two days when the 22nd Meeting of the CARICOM Council on Human and Social Development (COHSOD) is held in Georgetown, Guyana, on February 2 and 3.

Minister of Family, Culture, Sports and Youth, Stephen Lashley, will participate in the meeting and make a presentation on Cultural Diversity and Cultural Heritage. Director of the National Sports Council, Erskine King, who is currently attending a meeting of the Executive of the Organization of Caribbean Administrators of Sports and Physical Education in Guyana, will also be in attendance.

During the conference, there will also be discussions on the Development of CARICOM Cultural Industries, the Development of a Regional Sports Tourism Strategy, Youth, Crime and Violence: Prevention Initiatives, preparations for CARIFESTA X1, and Promoting Healthy Lifestyles among Youth. There will also be an update on the Regional Sports Academy.

COHSOD has been created to establish policies and programmes to promote the development of youth and women in the community, with a view to encouraging and enhancing their participation in social, cultural, political and economic activities; as well as set up and support programmes to expand culture and sports in the community.
