Ecumenical Service To Celebrate Barbados??? 46th Anniversary

Strengthening Our Nation Through Family, is the theme of this year’s ecumenical church service to celebrate Barbados’s 46th year of Independence.

It will be held at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, Two Mile Hill, St. Michael, on Sunday, November 25, at 4:00 p.m. The service will be preceded by cultural presentations starting at 3:00 p.m., involving schools, the church, community and national organisations such as the Barbados Boy Scouts Association; the Girl Guides Association and the Barbados Cadet Corps.

Acting Permanent Secretary in the Division of Family and Youth, Esworth Reid, said the service, which will be broadcast live on radio and television, would feature an interpreter for the hearing impaired. He was speaking today, during a press briefing on the ecumenical service and Independence Parade at the Ministry of Family, Culture, Sports and Youth, Mall Internationale, Haggatt Hall, St. Michael.

Mr. Reid added that a donation would be collected during the ceremony for persons with disabilities

Dr. Nigel Taylor, Chairman of the Barbados Evangelical Association, will be the Chief Celebrant and will lead the Thanksgiving Service, while the sermon will be delivered by the Reverend Joel Cumberbatch, Priest-in-Charge of the White Park Wesleyan Holiness Church. In addition, the Most Reverend Dr. John Holder, CBE, Archbishop of the West Indies and Bishop of Barbados will administer the benediction and blessing.

The service will include prayers for the nation, young people, family life and the vulnerable; a musical selection by the National Mass Choir; a scripture reading by a representative of the Jewish community; prayers by representatives of various religious organisations; the presentation of the National Flag by the Barbados Cadet Corps; and the playing of the National Anthem by the Royal Barbados Police Force Band. Members of the public are asked to be seated by 3:30 p.m.
