The Barbados Light & Power Co. Ltd (BL&P) and the Media Resource Department of the Ministry of Education will host a Renewable Energy Symposium on Tuesday, October 18, for secondary and tertiary level school teachers.

The symposium, a part of the activities to mark Education Month 2016, will be held at the BL&P’s headquarters at Garrison Hill in the Christie’s Conference Room, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry, Senator Harcourt Husbands, will deliver remarks, while Managing Director of BL&P, Roger Blackman, will give the feature address.

The objective of the symposium is to provide teachers with practical knowledge in the areas of electricity and renewable energy, which in turn they can convey to their students.

Over 75 educators from all secondary schools, as well as the Barbados Community College, the Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic and the University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus, are expected to attend. Among the topics to be discussed are Renewable Energy, Power Generation and Fiber Optics.

Over the years, the Ministry of Education and the BL&P have forged a successful partnership that has culminated in many educational activities, such as the inaugural Electricity and Renewable Energy Science Exposition, held earlier this year, and which was of great benefit to both primary and secondary schools across the island.
