Environment Month Activities Continue

Activities to mark Environment Month have entered the third week, with special emphasis being placed on educating the youth about eco-systems and the preservation of the environment.

There will be a series of events on Tuesday, June 19. They include interpretive tours of Joe’s River Forest in St. Joseph from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., hosted by the Natural Heritage Department. Students of the A. Dacosta Edwards Primary will attend one of these tours.

On Tuesday, the Ministry of Environment and National Beautification will host the third Living Sustainability Seminar focusing on natural beauty, in its conference room. Barbadian business, Earth Mother Botanicals will be featured.

In addition, the Ministry, in association with the Caribbean Youth Environment Network (CYEN), will present a number of environmental awareness seminars from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the CYEN’s offices, Number 10, Garrison, St. Michael.

On Wednesday, June 20, the Natural Heritage Department, in association with the Barbados Institute of Architects, will host a seminar titled: Enhancing our Living Space – Reflecting over the past 50 years.

Then on Thursday, June 21, emphasis will be placed on coastal risks, when Ramon Roach of the Coastal Zone Management Unit (CZMU) delivers a lecture on the topic at the Environmental Protection Department, Dalkeith, St. Michael (located on the NUPW compound), from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.

The week of activities will culminate on Friday, June 22, with interpretive tours of the Barbados National Park by schools from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The objective of these tours is to sensitise young people about the park and National Heritage Conservation Areas.

Environment Month 2018 is being held under the theme: Living Sustainably is…Celebrating Our Hilltops to Our Reefs.
