After more than four decades of selfless dedication to the field of statistics, the Barbados Statistical Service’s (BSS) Project Coordinator, Trevor Knight, was given a rousing send off by his former colleagues.

During a retirement function in his honour at PomMarine Hotel, Hastings, Christ Church, recently, Acting Director of the BSS, Aubrey Browne, described him as an individual who strived for excellence in all spheres of endeavour.

"This was reflected in the attention he paid to detail in his various tasks … He [Mr. Knight] was dedicated to his work and was always willing to share his vast knowledge of statistics with his colleagues.

"Unfortunately, he was forced to take compulsory retirement from the public service at age 66; at a time when the consultancy awarded to complete the six components of our Modernisation Project was just getting into full gear," ??he added.

Mr. Knight joined the civil service in 1965, as a Long Grade Clerk and was appointed to that position a year later in 1966.?? Four years later, he was appointed Statistician II and as Statistician I in 1978.

Less than a decade later, Mr. Knight was elevated to the post of Senior Statistician in 1986 and appointed Deputy Director in 2000.?? In October 2008, he was appointed to the temporary post of Project Coordinator in the Project Coordination Unit to oversee the Department’s Modernisation Project.
