Clients of the Urban Development Commission (UDC) and the Rural Development Commission (RDC) are reminded that they have just under a month to return completed registration forms for the Garden Beautification Competition.

This reminder has come from Project Officer at the UDC, Paula Gall, who said the competition, which has as its theme: Greening, Growing for all Generations, ends on Friday, November 18.

Clients may collect registration forms from UDC’s office at Bridge Street Mall, Bridgetown, or download one from the website www.udc.gov.bb.

To obtain additional information, UDC clients should call Ms. Gall or Sia Edwards at 417-1420, while those of the RDC should call Stephen Graham or Kim McFee at 227-4500.

This competition, which is sponsored by the UDC, allows clients to show off their creativity, while encouraging them to take pride in their well-maintained surroundings.

Ms. Gall explained that a number of companies had partnered with the UDC to provide prizes, discounted rates and vegetation to competitors.

She noted that the National Conservation Commission has been providing a 20 per cent discount on plants to all registered competition participants, while the Ministry of Agriculture has been assisting in the distribution of needed soil and vegetation.

The winner of the competition will receive a water tank installation and irrigation system, which will be installed by students of the Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic.

The second prize winner will be given two gardening vouchers from Carter’s General Stores and H & B Hardware, while the third prize winner will be awarded a garden hamper sponsored by EZ Pave.

This competition forms part of UDC’s activities to celebrate Barbados’ 50th Anniversary of Independence.
