Students May Enter FCCA Environmental Poster Competition

Students in primary and secondary schools are being invited to depict various ways of protecting the environment and promoting environmental awareness by using art to sketch their ideas.

The Florida Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) is inviting persons in the age categories of 12 and under and 13 to 16, to submit a poster in Standard English that shows three ways in which his/her destination may make a difference in preserving the environment.

However, in order to enter, students in the junior and senior divisions must not have celebrated their 13th and 17th birthdays by June 1.??The poster must contain a summary description along with the title of each poster. Posters should be 22??? x 28??? in size on Bristol board and contestants may use colour, black and white or collage, in whatever medium of their choice, such as paint or water colours.

Each entry must include the following: country; name and address of student; date of birth; telephone number; name and address of school; the name of the principal and the school???s telephone number.??The entries will be judged on creativity, relevance to the theme, content and quality of presentation (layout/design).

First place regional winners in the Children???s Environmental Poster Competition from each category, along with his/her classmates, will attend an exclusive event in their respective destinations.??Posters must be submitted to the Ministry of Tourism and International Transport, Two Mile Hill, St. Michael, no later than Friday, May 2.

Fun & Games For Fire Officers Professional Day

Come Sunday, May 4, fire officers will take time out to speak about their jobs and have fun with their families and friends as they celebrate Fire Officers??? Professional Day at the Briar Hall Grounds, Briar Hall, Christ Church.

Starting at 9:00 a.m., firemen will engage members of the public and invited guests to a range of competitive sports such as football, basketball and cricket, along with some novelty games.

This celebration coincides with the International Fire Fighters??? Day, which is also celebrated on May 4 worldwide. It seeks to recognise firemen as professional people, and create a greater understanding of what their jobs entail.

The day is also designed to bring communities and families of fire officers together through a time of fun. All are invited.

Customer Notice For Registered Mail

The Barbados Postal Service has introduced a new-look delivery notice/receipt for persons who receive foreign registered mail.

The Customer Notification (CN) is now white and has a barcode comprising the 12 character alphanumeric number that is used by senders and addressees to track the status of their mail.

The use of the barcodes meets the regulations of the Universal Postal Union (which is the international agency with oversight for the Global Postal Network), and is a requirement for all designated postal operators.

Upon receipt of this notice, customers are to present it to their delivery post office for collection of the registered item.

National Senior Games Time Correction

The National Senior Games will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, and not from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., as previously stated. On Sunday, April 27, the Games will run from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The Ministry of Social Care, Constituency Empowerment and Community Development has apologised for any inconvenience caused.
