Professionals Must Pay Fees To Register

All persons engaging in any profession, trade, business or calling as set out in the Profession, Trade and Business Registration Act Cap. 373, are reminded that annual registration fees for 2014 must be paid during the month of January.

Based on the categories set out in the Act, fees are payable to the Registrar, Registration Department, Judicial Centre, Whitepark Road, St. Michael.

Failure to meet the deadline will result in double the amount being charged for payment of the fees which are normally due.

Any person who fails, neglects or refuses to register and engages in any profession, trade, business or calling is guilty of an offence and liable to a fine of $500.

Anyone who is required by law to pay a fee and fails to do so within the determined period shall be treated as being unregistered.

Common Entrance Town Hall Meetings Next Week

Parents and guardians of children who will be writing the Barbados Secondary Schools’ Entrance Examination (BSSEE) on May 6, are being reminded that the first town hall meetings will be held at St. Bartholomew’s Primary, Parish Land, Christ Church and George Lamming Primary School, Flint Hall, St. Michael on Thursday, January 9.

The sessions, which begin at 5:00 p.m., will be addressed by Senior Education Officer, Glyne Price and Education Officer, Everton Briggs respectively.

They will, among other things, instruct persons about how to fill out the forms used in the examination, including the choice of school, deferral and special requests.

An initiative of the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, the meetings aim to sensitise stakeholders about the processes involved in the administration of the BSSEE, familiarly known as the Common Entrance Examination.

The second town hall meetings will be held on Saturday, January 11, at Roland Edwards Primary, Battaleys, St. Peter and the Christ Church Foundation School, Church Hill, Christ Church, from 5:00 p.m.
