CLOSING CEREMONY FOR SECONDARY SUMMER SCHOOL

Secondary Summer School 2013 will come to a close tomorrow, Wednesday, July 31, at the four venues across the island.

This initiative of the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation will conclude with a ceremony at St. George Secondary at 10:00 a.m. and at Christ Church Foundation, Frederick Smith and Ellerslie Secondary Schools at noon.

Senior Education Officer, Gertrude Welch, will address the ceremony at Christ Church Foundation, while Education Officers, Shamin Ally, Undine Shorey and Junior Burgess will speak at St. George, Frederick Smith and Ellerslie Secondary Schools, respectively.

Secondary Summer School 2013 targeted first to third form students who exhibited weaknesses in core subjects like Mathematics, English, Social Studies and Integrated Science.

Its major aim was to reduce deficits and enhance students??? performance by paying attention to the students in a holistic manner.

MINISTRY TO HOST PLANT CLINIC

The Ministry of Agriculture, in collaboration with the Commonwealth Agricultural Bureau International, will host a plant clinic for persons who wish to improve food security by reducing crop losses.

It will take place at the South Eastern Farmers Cooperative, Six Roads, St. Philip, which is opposite Emerald City, on Friday, August 2, from 9:00 a.m. until noon.

Interested persons are asked to bring their sick plants to the clinic, where representatives from the Ministry will be on hand to answer any questions on plant health.

BCC COURSE FOR TAXI & TOUR BUS OWNERS/OPERATORS??

Taxi and tour bus owners and operators are invited to register for the Passenger Transport Service Operator Training Course, which begins on Sunday, August 18, at the Barbados Community College (BCC).

The programme, which is being held by the Industry Services Unit of the BCC is sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism and the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Council.

It will focus on topics such as Business Management, Defensive Driving, Quality Customer Service and Foreign Language Basics.

Registration, which has already started, closes on Friday, August 16.

REGISTRATION FOR BCC CORES AND ELECTIVES START AUGUST 6

Students of the Barbados Community College (BCC) are being reminded that registration for Cores and Electives will start on Tuesday, August 6, and run until Tuesday, August 13.

There will be no registration on Monday, August 26 due to a general staff meeting.

First year students will begin classes at the College on Monday, September 2, while Second Year and continuing students will do so on Tuesday, August 27.

SHUTTLE SERVICE TO BE PROVIDED

Patrons, who attend the Freedom Walk and Historic Tour on Emancipation Day, Thursday, August 1, will be able to access a shuttle service after the event.

When the walk and tour ends at Independence Square in The City, the shuttles will take patrons to the Sky Mall and the Standard Complex car parks, Haggatt Hall, St. Michael, where parking is available for the event. The shuttle service will be offered at 11:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

Meanwhile, persons are reminded that they should gather at the Emancipation Statue, JTC Ramsay Roundabout, Haggatt Hall, St. Michael at 6:00 a.m. for the Emancipation ceremony, which has been organized by the non-governmental organisations.??

The walk and tour will begin at 8:00 a.m. from that location, and walkers will proceed to Independence Square in The City.??

At 10:00 a.m., Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth, Stephen Lashley is slated to give the feature address at the cultural presentation.??
