Register For Springer Memorial Continuing Education Programme

Barbadians and others seeking to further their education in the New Year can do so by enrolling in the Springer Memorial Continuing Education Programme.

Registration, which has already started, will run until Friday, January 3, 2014, Mondays to Fridays between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

The courses, which start on January 6, 2014, include Accounts, Principles of Business, Electronic Document Preparation and Management, English Language, and Mathematics.

The application fee is $30.00 and forms may be collected from the Springer Memorial Secondary School, Government Hill.

Prospective students requiring further information on fees and the timetable should call 437-3273 or 429-3196.

SJPP???S Annual Health Day November 14

The national effort that encourages Barbadians to adopt and maintain a healthy lifestyle will get a further boost next Thursday, November 14, when the Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic (SJPP) hosts its annual Health Day.

The event, which is part of the Polytechnic???s skills programme, is designed to expose students, residents from surrounding districts, other visitors and patrons to a wide range of health information services and products, while heightening their awareness of healthier lifestyles.

It will be held in the SJPP???s Assembly Hall, Wildey, St. Michael, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and the keynote address during the opening ceremony will be given by Dr. Wendy Sealy of the Ministry of Health.

Themed Your Status is your Responsibility, the day???s activities will also include free HIV testing, blood pressure, blood sugar levels, cholesterol, chlamydia and gonorrhoea, as well as breast screening.

In addition, counselling will be available to students, and there will be giveaways from several booths throughout the day.

RDC and UDC To Host ???A Taste of Barbadiana??? Event

The Urban and Rural Development Commissions are teaming up to host a cultural event next week in honour of this country???s 47th Anniversary of Independence.

The event, under the theme: A Taste of Barbadiana, will be held on Thursday, November 14, in the Bridge Street Mall, The City, from noon to 3:00 p.m.

Designed to give Barbadians a taste of the wealth of local talent on the island, there will be performances from Michael Taitt and All the Best featuring the Shaggy Bear and Green Monkey, Richard Stoute and the performers from the Teen Talent show.

Additionally, there will be songs rendered by Julie Burnett and Amber Blackman, and a performance by the Barbados Landship Association.

Directors of the Urban and Rural Development Commissions, Derek Alleyne and Randolph Outram, respectively, as well as other officials, will deliver remarks.
