Authority Advises Against Illegal Structures

The Barbados Transport Authority has advised the public that structures such as bus shelters should not be erected on any lay-by without the Authority???s permission.

Persons desirous of placing such structures on lay-bys should apply in writing to The Chairman, Barbados Transport Authority, #1, Roebuck Street, Bridgetown.

Any structures that have been erected without the Authority???s permission will be removed.

National Sports Council???s 5km Run Series Starts on Sunday

The annual 5km run series hosted by the National Sports Council, and sponsored by Cooperators General, will start this Sunday, September 22, at Speightstown, St. Peter.

The other races in the series will be held on Sunday, September 29, at Six Roads, St. Philip and on Sunday, October 6, at Bay Street, St. Michael.

The final run will be staged on Sunday, November 24, at a venue to be decided. The event will also feature a walk. All events are scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m.

Registration forms are available from the National Sports Council, Blenheim, My Lord???s Hill, St. Michael. A nominal registration fee will be charged per person, while a special fee will be administered for school groups consisting of 25 persons minimum.

There will be prizes for the winning participants.??For more information on these events, persons should contact the National Sports Council at 430-7700.

Community Arts Development Programme Invitation

Young persons, ages eight to 16, are invited to participate in the Ministry of Culture???s inaugural Community Arts Development Programme, which will begin in October.

This new initiative, which is partly sponsored by UNESCO, will see students exposed to three months of performing arts training as a way of improving the quality of this art form in Barbados. At the end of the programme, a multi-media production involving dance, theatre and music will be staged.

Candidates should have previous experience in dance and theatre.Drama teachers, who work with persons 16 years and under, are also invited to apply for training in the performing arts.

Training sessions will held at three venues- The Errol Barrow Centre for Creative Imagination, The Christ Church Foundation School, and the National Cultural Foundation.
