African Awareness Month starts on February 1.
During the month, a number of schools across the island will be staging events in commemoration of the period, known elsewhere as Black History Month.
The George Lamming Primary School at Flint Hall, St. Michael will start its month of activities this Friday February 1, at 8:45 a.m. under the theme: A Journey Across Africa.
Reverend Seth Ampadu will deliver the feature address and officially open the celebrations, while Principal Philip Roach will give welcome remarks.
Students, along with teachers and parents, will wear African garb and recall their heritage through dance, rhythm poetry and song.
The school’s activities will continue until Friday, March 1.
