Groups Needed For Sargassum Clean-Up

admin Ministry News

As Barbados??? beaches continue to be littered by the sargassum seaweed, the National Conservation Commission (NCC) is welcoming assistance in the clean-up efforts from interested groups.

Members of non-government organisations, service clubs, churches, schools, community and environmental groups are being invited to contact Special Projects Officer in the Public Relations and Marketing Department of the NCC, Ricardo Marshall, at 425-1200, to express their interest.

This will allow the NCC to mobilise additional staff and resources at beaches being targeted for the clean-up effort by interested groups.

Mr. Marshall noted that maintenance crews were deployed daily to clear affected areas, and that any assistance from interested groups would be welcomed.

The sargassum seaweed has washed ashore at a number of beaches stretching from River Bay on the north coast, to as far as the Richard Haynes Boardwalk along the south coast of the island.
