Minister of Health John Boyce has praised the work being done by the Diabetes Association of Barbados and the Barbados Family Planning Association.

His accolades came yesterday as he toured the headquarters of both organisations, accompanied by Permanent Secretary, Tennyson Springer, and other officials from the Ministry.

Mr. Boyce pledged Government???s continuing support to both agencies and called for a higher level of coordination between the non-governmental organisations and his Ministry.

At the Diabetes Association, the Health Minister met with president, Noreen Merritt, and her staff. Discussions centred on the Association???s support programmes targeted at both children and adults with diabetes, as well as its community work targeted at the wider public, including the deployment of its Mobile Unit.

The Association???s president also raised the challenges faced by that organisation in expanding its activities because of limited space at its current headquarters.

At the Barbados Family Planning Association, Mr. Boyce met newly-appointed executive director Juliette Bynoe-Sutherland and her staff. Discussions focused on the organisation???s work in areas such as sexual and reproductive health, clinical services, adolescent outreach and counselling.

Mrs. Bynoe-Sutherland looked forward to fostering even closer ties with the Ministry of Health as the organisation developed its programmes.
