In an effort to ensure that Persons Living with HIV and AIDS (PLWHA) have the basic amenities this Christmas Season, the Ministry of Housing, Lands and Urban and Rural Development, in partnership with the National Housing Corporation (NHC), has donated a number of food items to the Food Bank.

In a presentation this morning at LadyMeade Gardens, Jemmotts Lane, St. Michael, HIV/AIDS Coordinator for the Ministry of Housing, Francina Best explained that although the Ministry contributed to the Food Bank throughout the year, Christmas time was extra special and they wanted to make sure that PLWHA had nutritionally balanced food hampers, as well as liquid supplements.

"Staff at the Ministry would have attended a number of sensitisation and education workshops; therefore, we really understand the importance of the food bank and the type of items we needed to donate," she disclosed.

The Food Bank caters to clients referred by health care providers who may have social and economic challenges.?? These clients are also given information on how to get the most out of the food items given, in a safe and nutritious manner.

Donations of food items and personal hygiene products are usually made monthly, quarterly or bi-annually and enable the Food Bank to provide items needed for reducing complications related to HIV.

Corporate Barbados is also encouraged to support the Food Bank by donating food, conducting a food drive or fund raiser, making corporate donations, volunteering time or by joining the "Adopt-A-Shelf" Project.??tblackman@barbados.gov.bb
