The Human Resource Development Strategy and the Orbit Innovation Project will host a Start-up Weekend Barbados Hackathon, from tomorrow, Friday, October 28, to Sunday, October 30.
It will be held at the 3Ws Pavilion, The University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus.
The event, which will take the form of a software hackathon, will provide entrepreneurs and software developers with an opportunity to solve national problems across varying sectors, through the development of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) solutions.
During the event, participants will be engaged in a series of workshops; receive mentorship from business professionals; and garner business incubation support, prior to their involvement in the hackathon.
After this phase, entrepreneurs and innovators will be tasked with pitching their ideas and developing an ICT application with commercial appeal and an innovative capacity for problem solving.
The industries to be focused on for the event include Business Process Enhancement, Healthcare, the Cultural Industries, Consumerism and Automotive Innovation.
