Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth, Stephen Lashley, has commended the Insurance Corporation of Barbados Limited (ICBL) for its continued support of the Community Independence Celebrations.

In a hand over this morning at the Ministry in Sky Mall, Haggatt Hall, St. Michael, representative of ICBL, Damien Mascoll, presented Mr. Lashley with a cheque for $7,500.

The donation will be used to design and purchase polo shirts for the parish ambassadors, attendants and parish independence committees to wear for the upcoming Community Independence Celebrations.

???I would like to commend the ICBL for its consistency in being the key sponsor of this very important aspect of the programme,??? the Minister stated, adding that for over eight years, the company has continued to demonstrate its support for the social aspect of the development of Barbados.

In response, Mr. Mascoll said that such support was a necessary part of his organisation???s social responsibility.??He continued: ???The Corporation remains committed to this programme and to supporting initiatives and activities that promote the development of our young people. Wherever possible, we try to support programmes for youth development on the island.???

The polo shirts will be designed to reflect the specific colour assigned to each parish, an idea which was introduced in 1998 and has since become very popular.
