The Index of Retail Prices for January 2013 stood at 164.3 points, a decrease of 0.7 per cent when compared with that of December 2012, which was 165.5 points.

Among the major groups which decreased were: Food by 1.4 points or 0.7 per cent; Fuel and Light by 6.5 points or 3.5 percent; Household Operations and Supplies by 0.5 of a point or 0.4 per cent; Clothing and Footwear by 1.6 points or 1.6 per cent; and Transportation by 2.8 points or 1.9 per cent.

Some of the major groups which increased were: Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco by 2.3 points or 1.4 per cent; Housing by 0.8 of a point or 0.5 per cent; and Medical and Personal Care by 1.5 points or one per cent.

Education, Recreation and Miscellaneous remained constant at 146.3 points.
