Index of Retail Prices for January 2014

The Index of Retail Prices for January 2014 stood at 166.5 points, representing a decrease of 0.5 per cent when compared with the 167.3 points recorded in December 2013.???? ??

Increases of 0.6 per cent were recorded for Housing; 0.5 per cent for Household Operations and Supplies; 0.3 per cent for Transportation; 0.2 per cent for Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco; and 0.1 per cent for Medical and Personal Care.

Decreases of 2.0 per cent were recorded for Fuel and Light; 1.2 per cent for Food; 0.5 per cent for Clothing and Footwear and 0.1 per cent for Education, Recreation and Miscellaneous.

Between January 2013 and January 2014, the Index of Retail Prices increased by 1.3 per cent from 164.3 points to 166.5 points, while the average inflation rate for that period was 1.8 per cent.
