This country and India have pledged to continue to work closer together to further strengthen ties on a number of fronts.

This is the promise that came out of a courtesy call this morning between Minister of Education and Human Resource Development, Ronald Jones and the Indian High Commissioner to Barbados, Mr. Kanwal Jit Singh Sodhi.

Both the Minister and the Indian Envoy noted that the two countries had always maintained cordial and close relations and this was underscored by the scholarships and short training courses India offered under its Indian Technical and Economic (ITEC) programme to Barbadians.

The Education Minister also expressed the hope that such programmes will continued as several Barbadians had benefitted from scholarships to India.

India formalised diplomatic relations with the newly independent Barbados on November 30, 1966.
