The Index of Industrial Production declined by 2.0 per cent over the period July to September 2015.

According to information from the Barbados Statistical Service, the drop was due to declines in the Mining and Quarrying Sector of 18.2 per cent; the Manufacturing Sector of 0.5 per cent; and the consumption of Electricity, Gas and Water of 1.6 per cent.

At the end of July to September, Production in the Mining and Stone Quarrying sub-sectors declined by 18.8 per cent and 18.0 per cent respectively, over the review period.??

Production in the Electricity, Gas and Water Sector declined by 1.6 per cent over the period.??In the area of the Manufacturing Sector, output for July to September decreased by 0.5 per cent, due to declines in the indices for Food by 3.3 per cent; Wearing Apparel by 52.8 per cent; Non-Metallic Minerals by 7.9 per cent; and Other Manufacturing by 8.9 per cent.

Increases were recorded for Beverages and Tobacco by 27.3 per cent; Chemicals by 4.8 per cent and Electronic Components by 9.1 per cent. The index for Furniture remained constant during the period.
