The Index of Industrial Production for the month of October 2013 was 76.9 per cent. This indicated that the output levels increased by 7.0 points or 10.1 per cent compared with the previous month and rose by 2.1 points or 2.8 per cent when compared with October 2012.

The Manufacturing division, which is the main component of the Production Index, increased by 7.0 points or 13.5 per cent compared with September 2013 and rose by 2.9 points or 5.2 per cent compared with October 2012.

The Mining and Quarrying Division increased by 17.2 points or 28.6 per cent compared with September 2013 and rose by 1.3 points or 1.7 per cent when compared with October 2012. The Electricity, Gas and Water Division increased by 5.7 points or 3.7 per cent over that of the previous month but also fell by 1.3 points or 0.8 per cent below that of October 2012.

Manufacturing Index

The group movements within this division are detailed as follows:

Food:

The Food division for October 2013 increased by 10.3 points or 12.2 per cent over that of September 2013 and declined by 0.3 of a point or 0.4 per cent in comparison to October 2012.

Beverages and Tobacco:

The combined Index increased by 14.1 points or 25.2 per cent compared to the previous month and declined by 2.7 points or 3.7 per cent compared to October 2012.??The Beverages Index increased by 19.8 points or 25.3 per cent when compared with the previous month and fell by 3.7 points or 3.6 per cent below that of October 2012.??The output for Tobacco fell by 0.1 of a point or 22.2 per cent compared with the previous month and fell by 0.2 of a point or 28.4 per cent below that of October 2012.

Wearing Apparel:

This division increased slightly by 0.2 of a point or 3.4 per cent above that of the previous month, and declined by 4.4 points or 41.9 per cent below the same period of the previous year.

Wooden Furniture:

This division increased by 16.8 points or 15.6 per cent over September 2013 and rose by 17.7 points or 16.5 per cent over October 2012.

Chemicals:

The combined index for this division decreased by 4.1 points or 5.2 per cent in comparison to the previous month and fell by 1.6 points or 2.1 per cent below October 2012.??The Industrial Chemical index fell by 4.1 points or 5.2 per cent below September 2013, and the Other Chemicals index increased by 1.0 points or 2.3 per cent over the previous month.

Non-Metallic Products:

Output for this group increased by 31.5 points or 20.9 per cent compared to September 2013 and increased by 81.4 points or 81.1 per cent compared to October 2012.

Electronic Components:

The index for this group fell by 7.5 points or 30.0 per cent over the previous month and rose by 1.5 points or 9.0 per cent over the previous year.

Other Manufacturing:

This index increased by 8.9 points or 13.2 per cent over the previous month and decreased by 2.2 points or 2.8 per cent below the previous year.

Mining and Quarrying

Within the mining sub-division, crude oil rose by 10.2 points or 20.9 per cent compared with the previous month and increased by 10.2 points or 21.0 per cent compared with October 2012. The Quarrying sub-division rose by 22.3 points or 32.6 per cent compared with that of the previous month and fell by 5.3 points or 5.5 per cent below that of October 2012.

Electricity, Gas and Water

Within the Electricity, Gas and Water division, the net generation of electricity increased by 5.6 points or 3.3 per cent below the previous month. Natural Gas increased by 2.9 points or 7.7 per cent over September 2013; net-generation of water rose by 6.2 points or 5.3 per cent over the previous month.
