The Index of Industrial Production (IIP) decreased by 3.8 per cent in November 2015, when compared with the previous month.

According to data produced by the Barbados Statistical Service, the decline in the index was due to decreases in Manufacturing by 5.3 per cent, and the consumption of Electricity, Gas and Water by 2.6 per cent.

Meanwhile, an increase was recorded for Mining and Quarrying by 11.9 per cent.

The IIP for November recorded a decrease of 2.1 per cent when compared with the previous year.

A decline was recorded in Manufacturing by 6.7 per cent. Meanwhile, increases were recorded for Mining and Quarrying by 36.4 per cent, and the consumption of Electricity, Gas and Water by 3.3 per cent.

Output for the Mining and Quarrying Sector grew by 36.4 per cent at the end of November when compared with the previous year, due to increases in the index for Mining by 23.6 per cent and Stone Quarrying by 41.4 per cent.

Production in the Electricity, Gas and Water Sector increased by 3.3 per cent when compared with the previous year, due to increases in the generation of Electricity by 3.7 per cent and Water by 1.6 per cent. A decline was recorded in the index for the generation of Natural Gas by 1.0 per cent.

Year-on-year output in the Manufacturing Sector for November 2015 decreased by 6.7 per cent due to decreases recorded in the indices for Food by 11.7 per cent; Beverages and Tobacco by 2.7 per cent; Wearing Apparel by 49.5 per cent; Furniture by 5.5 per cent; and Chemicals by 20.3 per cent.

Meanwhile, growth was reflected in the indices for Non-Metallic Minerals by 2.0 per cent; Electronic Components by 15.8 per cent; and Other Manufacturing by 0.8 per cent.
