The Ministry of International Business (IB) is going all out to expand its reach into the Latin American market.

And, according to Minister Donville Inniss, recent missions to Mexico and Colombia are “bearing fruit”.

Speaking this morning at the annual International Business Workshop hosted by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Barbados at the Hilton Barbados Resort, Mr. Inniss also disclosed that this weekend he would lead a mission of Barbadian manufacturers and service providers to Panama, in an effort to seek further business for the International Business sector.

The Minister stated that in the midst of “excitement” about Brexit, he saw great opportunities for this country’s International Business and Financial Services sector.

“Businesses want to be where there is certainty and consistency. We must continue to offer such. Europeans must be encouraged to invest in and through Barbados,” he asserted.

Stating that the strengthening of diplomatic relations with African states was also high on the priority list of Prime Minister Freundel Stuart, and Foreign Affairs Minister, Senator Maxine McClean, Mr. Inniss remarked that Barbados should have established business ties with Africa a long time ago.

“Others who historically have little relations are benefiting from the growth and potential of the African continent. As the home of our ancestors, we must, out of courtesy and out of a desire to expand our IB sector, visit and engage in a constructive manner,” he said.
