The Kiwanis Clubs of Barbados have been commended for outstanding service to citizens, especially the youth.

The praise came from Minister of Family, Youth, Sports and the Environment, Dr. Esther Byer-Suckoo, at the installation of Kiwanis officers, at the Accra Beach Hotel last weekend.

The Minister commended young people for offering their services as part of Kiwanis Barbados. “I am acutely aware that you could use your time to do other things, but you have chosen to be involved in an organisation which seeks to create extraordinary life-changing moments for ordinary people,” she said.

Declaring that Government recognises the important role that service clubs and community organizations play, Dr. Byer Suckoo added that her administration is also cognisant of the significant sacrifices made by volunteers, to ensure that projects and programmes are successful, and that the needs of the target population are met. “To this end, the Prime Minister of Barbados acted on his promise in the budgetary proposals, to pay stipends to volunteers in the national summer camp, held under my ministry.”

“I am pleased to report that this initiative was well received by volunteers as well as parents and guardians of all campers, and that costs accrued in the extended national summer camp Programme were met by the Ministry,” she added.
