A government minister has expressed concern that too many young Barbadians are unaware of or show no respect for the etiquette required for job interviews.

Minister of Labour, Social Security and Human Resource Development, Senator Dr. Esther Byer Suckoo, opined that there were too many young persons who walked into interviews dressed and behaving ???like it is a Saturday night??? and are then surprised when they are unable to gain employment.

She was speaking to the media during the two-day job fair coordinated by her ministry and Canadian recruiting firm, Diamond Global, at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre this weekend.

???You ask them why are they here like this and they say ???I ain???t come to work, I only come for an interview???. I am seeing girls wearing camisole tops that do not fit and they wear heels which are longer than their skirts. That is how they show up for interviews. Some guys even show up with a comb in their hair,??? the Labour Minister remarked.

Senator Byer Suckoo stressed that young persons must learn to present themselves properly if they were to prove successful in the job market.

In this regard, she said staff of the National Employment Bureau of the Labour Department had been working hard to instill the correct etiquette and sensitise interviewees to the correct deportment when preparing for a job interview.
