Lashley: Gold Cup A Boost For Sports Tourism

The Sandy Lane Gold Cup is the ???epitome??? of sporting tourism.

This sentiment was shared yesterday by Sports Minister, Stephen Lashley, at the official reception ceremony for the Sandy Lane Gold Cup, in the Grace Adams Suite of the Grantley Adams International Airport.

Mr. Lashley stated that the Gold Cup had done much for horse racing in Barbados, and indeed for sports tourism.?????I believe the symbiotic relationship between culture and sports in evident in the Sandy Lane Gold Cup,??? he added.

While commending the Sandy Lane Resort for its sponsorship of the event for the past 20 years, Mr. Lashley explained that in general, sports have helped the country to diversify its tourism product, ???as persons travel from far and near to witness the Sandy Lane Gold Cup in lovely Barbados???.

The Sandy Lane Gold Cup, which will be held at the Garrison Savannah on Saturday, March 5, is one of the island???s largest horse racing events. Currently in its 20th year, the event is expected to attract hundreds of local and international spectators.
