There is a need for regional sporting organisations to focus on the maintenance of their facilities.

This message came from Minister of Sports, Stephen Lashley, as he addressed the opening of a FIFA Football Turf Maintenance Seminar at the Radisson Aquatica Resort on Tuesday.

While complimenting FIFA for engaging the region in ???a very important activity???, Mr. Lashley noted that in Barbados, the maintenance of such facilities has been a ???major??? challenge.

He acknowledged that he did not believe that ???we have been as good as we could have been??? when maintaining the already-established facilities.?????Often times we are quick and eager to develop facilities but we???re not as quick and as eager to ensure that we have proper maintenance plans,??? he noted.

The Sports Minister further stated that in Barbados and across the region, developing and maintaining sporting facilities has been a very important task, one that the various sporting bodies must participate in and encourage.

The two-day workshop, which is being attended by representatives from several Caribbean countries, will cover a variety of topics, including Maintenance Theory for Natural Grass and Maintenance Theory for Football Turf.
