Come next week, Barbadians will get a better understanding of the Skills for the Future: Build, Innovate, Transform (BIT) Barbados 2014 Conference that will be held by the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation at Hilton Barbados, from January 26 to 28.

On Tuesday, January 14, there will be a press launch in the main conference room of the Ministry at the Elsie Payne Complex, Constitution Road, St. Michael, where members of the planning committee will speak to the aims and objectives of the conference and engage media in dialogue. The launch will start at 10:00 a.m.

Chairperson of the committee and Director of the Higher Education Development Unit, Dr. Patrick Rowe, will lead the session. It will also be attended by Director of the TVET Council, Henderson Eastmond; the Programme Director of the Programme Coordinating Unit of the Ministry, Paul Murphy; Chief Planning and Research Officer, Mark Franklyn; Country Coordinator for A Ganar, Ytannia Wiggins; Executive Director of the Barbados Coalition of Service Industries, Lisa Cummins; Director of the Barbados Manufacturers??? Association, Bobbi McKay and a representative of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).

The conference is in support of the Skills for the Future initiative of the Government of Barbados and the IDB. Its primary objective is to identify and highlight best practices and successful models for bringing about the alignment of modern TVET systems with the demands of the 21st century labour market.
