The Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation will conduct a student leadership training programme for St. Leonard’s Boys’ School tomorrow, Friday, January 20, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

It will be held at UNICEF’s headquarters, United Nations House, Hastings, Christ Church.  The training, which targets some 30 students, is in an effort to revive the student council at that school and is just one of the initiatives under the Schools’ Positive Behavioural Management Programme (SPBMP).

Students will be introduced to pertinent life skills such as self-awareness, decision making, and problem-solving. The programme will also seek to improve and enhance their leadership skills.

As a result, emphasis will be placed on the importance and role of student councils in schools and how student leadership can positively improve the ethos of the school.

Facilitators for the sessions will be Education Officer, Andrea Baptiste; and SPBMP team member, Nicole Lynch. Principal of St. Leonard’s Boys’ School, Joseph Maynard, will deliver the opening remarks at the event, which will also be addressed by Education Specialist at UNICEF, Elaine King.
