Lifeguards Stage Rescue Simulation For Next Monday???s World Oceans Day

admin Ministry News

In an effort to ensure that Barbadians and visitors utilising our beaches are better protected, the National Conservation Commission (NCC), will on Monday be staging a marine/terrestrial rescue simulation at Enterprise (Miami) Beach beginning at 9:00 a.m., in observance of World Ocean’s Day.

In giving some insight into the exercise, NCC General Manager, Keith Neblett, said: "The key to preventing drowning and other aquatic injuries is to have properly prepared lifeguards. The reality is that lifeguarding, First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) skills, like any other skill, require repetition and reinforcement.

"By conducting in-service training in the form of simulations, the service can improve the skills and abilities of their lifeguards through critical evaluations, and thorough subsequent critical evaluations. These are also important to maintain public confidence in the service," he explained.

In addition to the simulation exercise, members of the lifeguard service will also be on hand to demonstrate the importance of equipment and its usage and to answer any public queries.

Minister of the Environment, Dr. Denis Lowe, and other environment officials will also be on hand to participate in the exercise, which forms part of the activities to mark Environment Month.
