Literacy Town Hall Meeting On May 21

Barbadians are being encouraged to join the debate on literacy that will arise when the Barbados Association of Reading (BAR) hosts a town hall meeting on Thursday, May 21.

The event, which will be held at the Grande Salle of the Central Bank of Barbados, starts at 6:00 p.m.

Deputy Principal of Erdiston Teachers??? Training College (ETTC), Dr. Patricia Saul, will lead an expert panel that will address the issue: Literacy and the World of Work.

Dr. Saul will be joined by Labour Management Advisor with the Barbados Employers??? Confederation, Brittany Brathwaite; and First Vice President of the National Union of Public Workers, Joy-Ann Inniss.

The trio will seek to answer the questions: Are Barbadians as literate as we think we are? and How is literacy or lack of reading and writing skills impacting on business and productivity in Barbados?

Educators, students and persons with an interest in uplifting the literacy level on the island and gaining more knowledge on literacy and the role of BAR, are especially invited to attend.

BAR is the Barbadian affiliate of the International Literacy Association. Membership of this reading association is open to people resident in Barbados.
