Ministry Hosts Food Collection Drive For Aids Awareness Week

A number of Bridgetown stores have partnered with the Ministry of Labour and Social Security to host a food collection drive for AIDS Awareness Week, which runs from Saturday, December 1 to 7.

The food drive, which is scheduled to begin on World AIDS Day, Saturday, December 1, will take place in Super Style Shoe Shop at the Corner of James Street & Swan Street; Cave Shepherd on Broad Street; Woolworth on Prince William Henry Street; and Courts on St. George Street, Bridgetown.

The public is encouraged to donate non-perishable food items, such as rice, peas and evaporated milk in the barrels found at these locations.?? Personal hygiene products including soap, deodorant and sanitary napkins may also be contributed.

The Ministry will also participate in the World AIDS Day activities taking place in Bridgetown.?? Officials and volunteers will visit stores to sensitise customers and staff about HIV and AIDS as well as Occupational Safety and Health.

Other activities taking place on that day include mini walks and a concert, scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m. and conclude at 6:00 p.m.
